Chrome will now be usable in virtual reality

Google will now the Chrome browser in virtual reality for its helmets Daydream.

The site YouTube channel (2D) in virtual reality

The theme of virtual reality was dominant last year at the Google I/O with the presentation of the platform DayDream. This year, the announcements are not lacking, but they are somewhat buried under a mountain of issues that are very different (Android, Machine Learning, Google, Wizard, etc.). The platform DayDream, which is today available only on a limited number of smartphones (and soon on the Galaxy S8), soon will welcome the changes to be really useful.

Among these, Google has informed on the arrival of the Google Chrome browser in virtual reality. It will thus be possible to view all the sites from a streamlined interface. Sites in 2D will be fully managed, just like those using the technology WebVR, that is to say, of the capabilities of virtual reality directly in a browser.

The list of the tabs in Chrome

This version of the browser incorporates the functionality that you already use in everyday life. We thus find a home page with tabs recent. You can easily open new pages, including the ability to pass through the incognito mode. Each tab has its own buttons for previous and next and a navigation performed by the controller DayDream.

The sites in two dimensions have only a small interest in virtual reality, but those using the WebVR make sense. In this way, Google comes subtly to marry two of its key areas : virtual reality and the web. This browser will come as early as this summer on all helmets designer Google.

Finally, always in the field of Chrome, Google has announced that it wants to integrate the augmented reality on the web through the WebAR. A version of Chromium ( open source Chrome) is already available and will allow developers to use the functionality of project Tango.

Proof if it were needed that the future is clearly oriented towards the web !
