The mega-star of Cleveland, LeBron James is not part of the last three players vying for the prestigious title of best player of the season (MVP), announced on Friday the League of north american basketball (NBA).
The jury of specialized journalists has preferred James, who has already been crowned MVP four times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), James Harden (Houston), Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City) and Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio).
The double holder of the title, Stephen Curry (Golden State) don’t see him no more in this last list. It will therefore be necessary for one of the three nominees of the first MVP of his career.
Harden finished in the 2nd place of the ranking of the markers of the regular season (with 29.1 pts per game), behind Westbrook (31,6 points), which has beaten the old record a “triple double” (three categories of statistics to ten units and more) on a season of the legendary Oscar Robertson. Leonard, who dispute the final of the Western conference with San Antonio, finished the regular season with an average of 27.7 points per game.
Gobert in the running for two trophies
For the title of best coach of the season, are in contention Gregg Popovich (San Antonio), Mike d’antoni (Houston) and Erik Spoelstra (Miami).
Frenchman Rudy Gobert (Utah) is on his side in contention for two trophies. It competes with Leonard (San Antonio) and Draymond Green (Golden State) for one of best defender in NBA, won in 2015 and 2016 by Leonard. For the trophy for the player with the most progress, Gobert is in competition with the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee) and the Serbian Nikola Jokic (Denver).
These trophies, awarded after consulting a jury of specialist journalists, will be awarded for the first time during a special event on 26 June in New York. (afp/nxp)
