The tablet market general public being at half-mast, some are trying their luck with niche products. This is the case of Bordered, a young specialist in Hi-Fi, which has a tablet audiophile… $ 1600.
The brand Bordered markets now, at the end ofa campaign of crowdfunding, an amazing product called the Vita. It isa server and music player in the form of a tablet. The device has a multitude of inputs and outputs to play music in high-fidelity on all kinds of speakers.
The Bordered Vita is a tablet transportable
As a tablet, for a start, the Bordered Vita has a screen IPS Full HD 11.6-inch. It has a processor ARM Cortex-A9 not specified in ” multiple cores “, 4 Gb of ram, and one or two hdds or SSDS for a maximum of 4 Tb. Finally, it is not based on Android, but on a platform house entirely dedicated to the Hi-Fi.
As input, it can play the files stored on its hard drives, on a storage medium external USB, or from a computer or on a NAS connected to the local network. It supports DSD256, DXD, and PCM up to 384 kHz 32-bit formats FLAC and Apple Lossless. It can also connect to the main services of on-demand music, Apple Music, Deezer, Google Play Music, Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal, or even YouTube (for the latter, from the jam to pigs).
Output finally, the drive Bordered Vita broadcasts a “bit-perfect” to its digital audio outputs (SPDIF, optical, coaxial, and even BNC) or AES/EBU (XLR), to a USB DAC, to an AV amplifier via HDMI or to speakers connected via Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth aptX. The device supports Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay and proprietary solutions Bose SoundTouch and Sonos.
One remote control all from the touch screen of the device, of course, but also through good old-fashioned infrared remote control, an interface to tv (via HDMI or Google Cast), an application for tablets, phones and watches for Android and iOS, or even the voices, through the built-in microphones. Bordered said that it is planning to add a voice assistant allowing you to obtain weather, traffic conditions and remotely control their connected home, without knowing if it will be a wizard house or an existing solution, such as Google Assistant, or Amazon’s Alexa.
The Bordered Vita is now sold on the online shop of the brand, ranging in price from $ 1600 without storage to $ 3000 with 4 Tb of SSD. It is possible to add the device to the USB DAC Bordered Wave sold 1900 to 2500 dollars and ripper CD to $ 600.
But beware of the placebo effect ! Before making a purchase, it is recommended that you verify that you made the difference between an MP3 at 320 kb/s and, without even speaking of DXD, is this a FLAC 44.1 kHz 16 bit. You can deliver with a good equipment, a test ABX double-blind such as this.
