For the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, there is not the shadow of a doubt : it is indeed a “terrorist attack horrible” that has been perpetrated in the night of Sunday to Monday in front of the Finsbury Park mosque, a neighbourhood in the north-east of London. She referred to ” deliberately innocent Londoners, many of whom who were to pray in this holy month of ramadan “. An attack that took place according to a mode of operation is now well established : a van ran into pedestrians in front of the mosque. One dead and ten injured, all of them muslim, according to the authorities. One person has been arrested. The attack “reminds us that terrorism, extremism and hatred take many forms, and our determination to fight them, irrespective of fault,” said the First british minister Theresa May to the press, in front of the offices of 10 Downing Street after an emergency meeting of the government.
A man driving a white van was dark on a crowd of muslim worshippers who were coming out of the Finsbury Park mosque, in north London, after a prayer in the context of ramadan, shortly after midnight. The assailant has been controlled by people on the spot, immobilized and arrested by the police, called just after 0: 20 (21: 20 GMT).
The mayor of London Sadiq Khan has denounced a “terrorist attack” and the police is treating the attack as a “terrorist act,” said the Interior minister Amber Rudd.
The assailant is a man, aged 48 years. According to a witness interviewed by the BBC, Khalid Amin, the attacker would have screamed ” not All muslims ! I want to kill all the muslims ! “It has been brought to the hospital where he must undergo tests to assess his mental health, according to the police, who had on Monday morning identified any other suspect in this attack. Monday, in the afternoon, police in London announced that the suspect arrested after the attack was now “detained for terrorism”.
How many victims ?
The attacks resulted in 10 injured, 8 are hospitalized, and 2 were treated on the spot. A man who was the object of care on-site before the attack occurs is deceased, and the police has yet to establish if this death is related to the attack, according to Neil Basu, head of counter-terrorism. All the victims are part of the muslim community.
The Finsbury Park mosque was known in the early 2000s, to be a high place of the islamic activists of London who came to listen to the sermons fiery ofAbu Hamza. This preacher of egyptian origin has been sentenced to life in prison in January 2015 for the United States for eleven of the charges related to a hostage-taking and terrorism. The direction of the mosque has since changed, but threatening letters were received after the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015. The mosque has condemned this “terrorist” attack of hate ” in a press release.
The attack comes in a context of repetition of acts of a racist. According to the mayor of London, attacks against muslims have been multiplied by 5 since the attack of June 3, and racist incidents have increased by 40 % in London.

On 22 march, Khalid Masood, a British 52-year-old converted to islam and known to police, had mowed down pedestrians by running his rented car on the sidewalk of the Westminster bridge in central London, before stabbing to death a police officer in front of the Parliament, making 5 deaths.
