London : muslims targeted by an attack “terrorist”

The attack “reminds us that terrorism, extremism and hatred take many forms, and our determination to fight them, irrespective of fault,” said the First british minister Theresa May to the press, in front of the offices of 10 Downing Street after an emergency meeting of the government.

  • The facts

A man driving a white van was dark on a crowd of muslim worshippers who were coming out of the Finsbury Park mosque, in north London, after a prayer in the context of ramadan, shortly after midnight. The assailant has been controlled by people on the spot, immobilized and arrested by the police, called just after 0: 20 (21: 20 GMT).

The mayor of London Sadiq Khan has denounced a “terrorist attack” and the police is treating the attack as a “terrorist act,” said the Interior minister Amber Rudd.

  • The suspect

The assailant is a man, aged 48 years. According to a witness interviewed by the BBC, Khalid Amin, the attacker would have screamed ” not All muslims ! The direction of the mosque has since changed, but threatening letters were received after the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015.
