Google Maps will work even more offline

Google prepares a new version of the Google Maps application for Android, which will, in all likelihood, download the map of a state or an entire country.

Our confreres ofAndroid Police “dismantled” APK version 9.55 of Google Maps, recently aired on the channel beta, and have discovered evidence of future features.

A whole country offline

This is not yet operational, but this update contains references to new options in terms of Plans offline. The latest version indeed provides new options, “Select the region” and ” All countries “ for this topic, in addition to the options “Select your own plan” and “Plans” recommendations for existing.

At this stage, it is only possible to select a square of approximately 300 km on a side (90 000 km2), and a maximum of 1725 Mb, covering, for example, one-sixth of the metropolitan France (550 000 km2).

Download the plan of an entire country is a function expected, which makes it possible to save downloads on the fly, so to save the battery, and the volume of the internet, which is especially welcome during a road-trip abroad.

Channels of notification

Google Maps 9.55 also provides the channel support for notifications on Android O, which allows for example to accept to be notified of the starting time for the next appointment, but never be invited to note a place or to contribute to the improvement of the mapping.
