Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 : what we know about the upcoming flagships of Mountain View

The engineers of Google are currently preparing a new generation of smartphones to the family Pixel. Here’s everything we know about the next flagship Android that will face the iPhone 8 Apple.

After several years of developing smartphones with manufacturers in the Nexus program, Google has become a handset manufacturer to a full-fledged launch of its Google Pixel and Pixel XL in 2016. These products are designed by the engineers in Mountain View were all the same manufactured by HTC by following precise specifications.

With a price equivalent to that of the iPhone, Google wants to create for an Android flagship that is able to represent the operating system in its best provisions. According to the foreign press, the phones are never released in France, this first test was a success despite several shortcomings, such as its design rather classic and a very poor integration of the display to the chassis.

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 planned for the end of the year will, therefore, be the spot to confirm the good choice of the manufacturer, while correcting some errors of youth of the previous generation.

Google Pixel 2 : code name ” Walleye “

We know still little about what will be the technical specifications of the Google Pixel 2. The smartphone would incorporate a chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, a high-end solution that can be found in the competition in this range. It would also have the right to 4 Gb of RAM, and at least 64 Gb of storage. This would be the least compared to the competition, since except surprise, the Google Pixel 2 does not incorporate a drive of micro SD card to expand the storage.

The margins around the screen the Pixels were very large.

According to the rumors, the design of the Pixel 2 would be almost identical to that of the first generation, including the presence of wide borders around the screen OLED 4,97 inch 1080p. On the other hand, bad news on the side of the connection, Google would have decided to get rid of the jack port as Apple and HTC.

If this is confirmed, it is hoped that this will at least allow the firm to offers a smartphone resistant to water and dust with a certification of IP67. This was not the case of the Google Pixel of the first generation.

Google Pixel XL 2 : “Taimen” and ” Muskie “

Originally the engineers at Google were working on three different products, ” Walleye “, “Taimen” and ” Muskie “. The latter was originally designated to be the successor of the Google Pixel XL, but it would have eventually been abandoned. The project “Taimen” should, therefore, take over and be marketed under the name Google Pixel XL 2.

This history probably explains why there seems to be more differences between “Walleye” and ” Taimen “, the assumed Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, that between two products of the first generation Pixel and Pixel XL.

The Google Pixel XL 2 would include a display of 6-inch OLED QHD, but the borders around the screen would be much thinner and the glass part to the back of the phone would have been narrowed. The phone embarquerait a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 clocked at 2.45 GHz and supported by 4 Gb of RAM. Finally, one of the proposed alternatives would have the right to 128 Gb of storage.

Availability and prices

We had been disappointed to learn that Google Pixel would not come out in France, probably because of its integration of Google Wizard that is not yet available in us. Now that it’s done, we hope that the Google Pixel 2 will be released alive and well in France.

Its announcement and its release is expected for the end of the year, a year after the previous generation and always in the face of the iPhone which the new model will be presented in September. The rate should follow that of the first generation of high-end products sold at the same prices as the iPhone, or more than 750 euros for the smaller model, and more than 900 euros for the large model.
